Happy’s Apprenticeship Programmes Recognised as Good by Ofsted

The quality of Happy's apprenticeship programmes has recently been recognised as Good within the Ofsted further education and skills inspection. Ofsted reviewed the overall effectiveness of our quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and apprenticeships, giving us the Good mark on each and every category.

Ofsted took the time to review our online and in-person programmes, seeing how our flexibility and dedication to teaching has helped many different individuals over the last year. Since our last Ofsted inspection, we took the time to implement some of their suggestions, particularly when it came to setting clear expectations with employers and new apprentices at the start of programmes. These changes were recognised by Ofsted.

Ofsted had the following to say:

“Leaders integrate into each management apprenticeship the company’s unique set of core management principles. Through the training, they aim to equip apprentices with the knowledge, skills and behaviours beyond conventional management models. They strive to support apprentices’ professional development and the teams they work with to create happy workplaces.”

When it comes to our courses and what we are teaching, they said: “Apprentices study a curriculum that meets their and their employers’ needs well, particularly for those in the charity and local authority sectors. They learn significant new knowledge and skills incrementally throughout the programme. This is because staff work closely with employers to design each curriculum. Staff get to know the needs of employers’ organisations in depth and accurately identify what apprentices already know and can do. They use this information to good effect to design bespoke curriculums.”

“Our facilitators have worked hard to design a curriculum around Happy’s values of trust, empowerment and self-managing teams, to help our apprentices become modern leaders of the future. This Ofsted inspection result of Good is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and the huge impact that our programmes are having,” said Sheena Morris, Director of Apprenticeships at Happy.

We are all very proud of this Good Ofsted report, and will aim to continue this standard and improve our programmes based on the suggestions by Ofsted.
